وَإِنand indeed مَقاميmy stay شَطَرَhalf of يَومٍa day بِمَنزِلٍin a dwelling
وَإِن مَقامي شَطَرَ يَومٍ بِمَنزِلٍ
أَخافُI fear عَلىfor نَفسيmy life بِهِin it لِكَثيرُindeed too much
أَخافُ عَلى نَفسي بِهِ لِكَثيرُ
And indeed, my staying half a day in a dwelling
Though I stay but half a day in a house,
where I fear for my life is too long.
I fear for myself in it greatly.
وَقَدand may يَهرُبُflee الإِنسانُa person مِنout of خيفَةِfear of الرَدىdeath
وَقَد يَهرُبُ الإِنسانُ مِن خيفَةِ الرَدى
فَيُدرِكُهُthen overtakes him ماwhat خافَhe feared حَيثُwhere يَسيرُhe goes
فَيُدرِكُهُ ما خافَ حَيثُ يَسيرُ
And a person may flee for fear of death,
And the man may flee from the terror of perishment
then what he feared overtakes him wherever he goes.
But what he feared shall meet him where he goes.
