غابت وفي القلب من أشواقها لهبٌ

واستوحشت بعدها الأوطانُ والحِلَلُ

واستوحشت بعدها الأوطانُ والحِلَلُ

She is gone, and a flame of longing for her burns in the heart.

She left, and in my heart her longing burns like fire,

And the homelands and dwellings grew desolate after her.

Without her, home and hearth seem strange and bare.

فقلت لا تعجبوا منها إذا انتقلت

فقلت لا تعجبوا منها إذا انتقلت

فهكذا البدرُ في الأبراجِ ينتقلُ

فهكذا البدرُ في الأبراجِ ينتقلُ

So I said: Do not marvel at her when she moves away;

Do not wonder that she's gone to lands afar,

For thus the full moon moves among the zodiac signs.

The moon itself moves through the mansions fair.
