O hills of Lebanon, may the rain greet you,

And may the clouds’ downpour water your soil.

O abodes of joy, O home of serenity,

O gardens of eternity, O most blissful abode!

How lovely is Lebanon with its forests,

How lovely are those deserts and hills.

How lovely is its fragrant breeze,

It revives souls—indeed, it heals sickness.

And the murmur of water in those hills

Is like the yearning of a love-stricken lover.

How lovely is its spring, which mirrors

A display of flowers, radiant with a smile.

It spread flowers across its expanses,

    Among roses, daisies, and lavender.

And the fresh, clear water in those springs

Makes the middle-aged man younger than a boy.

And you see the birds in those hills,

Among them blackbirds, hawks, and doves,

Sailing above the branches on the dunes,

Amid warbling and the song of doves.

Oh, what a radiant sight, encompassing

All that delights, in the loveliest arrangement!

O morning breeze, convey greetings to it

From a lover enraptured by love of native lands.

You are a paradise to me, O finest land,

    Gathering all joy and peace.

How lovely were the days of joy in you, O

My beloved homeland—they vanished like a dream.

How often their memory has stirred in me

A sorrow that kindles a blaze in my heart.

Oh, may God water those brief moments that passed

    Among your illustrious, generous people.

They are people of virtue, masters of wisdom,

And people of letters, of high standing.

So my remembrance is always yours,

And they have our affection’s fullest pledge of loyalty.
