خريدةٌ من ذواتِ اللّطفِ والاَدَبِ
أَحيَتshe revived فؤَآديmy heart إذwhen حيَّتهُshe greeted it عنfrom كَثَبِnearby
أَحيَت فؤَآدي إذ حيَّتهُ عن كَثَبِ
A maiden endowed with grace and refinement,
A gem of refined manners and etiquette
She revived my heart when she greeted it from nearby.

بديعةٌexquisite قدindeed حَوَتshe held حُسنthe beauty of البيانeloquence بماin what
بديعةٌ قد حَوَت حُسن البيان بما
أَبدتهُshe revealed it منof كلّevery معنىًmeaning رائِقٍlucid عَدِبِsweet
أَبدتهُ من كلّ معنىً رائِقٍ عَدِبِ
Exquisite, she held the beauty of eloquence in
A beauty that combined eloquence with
every lucid, sweet meaning she revealed.
Every subtle and delicate meaning
دلَّتshe attested عَلَىto فضلthe excellence of منشيهاher composer الذيwho اشتهرَتbecame renowned
دلَّت عَلَى فضل منشيها الذي اشتهرَت
أَوصافهُhis qualities الغرُّradiant بينamong العجمِthe non-Arabs والعَرَبِand the Arabs
أَوصافهُ الغرُّ بين العجمِ والعَرَبِ
She attested to her composer's excellence, whose
She displayed the merit of her writer, renowned
radiant qualities became renowned among non-Arabs and Arabs.
For his sublime qualities among non-Arabs and Arabs
الشاعرthe poet الناثرthe prose writer الشهمthe noble-hearted man الذيwho افتَخَرتtook pride
الشاعر الناثر الشهم الذي افتَخَرت
بهِin him القَوافيthe rhymes فَباهَتthen vied with مَطلَعthe rising of الشُهُبِthe shooting stars
بهِ القَوافي فَباهَت مَطلَع الشُهُبِ
The poet, the prose writer, the noble-hearted man in whom
The poet, prose writer, brave man that rhymes
the rhymes took pride, then vied with the rising of shooting stars,
Boasted of, outshining the morning stars
منthrough كلّevery معنًىmeaning بهِin it للسحرto magic عارضَةٌa rivaling power
من كلّ معنًى بهِ للسحر عارضَةٌ
فيin كلّevery لفظٍword بديعexquisite السبكcrafting مُنتَخبِchosen
في كلّ لفظٍ بديع السبك مُنتَخبِ
Through every meaning with the power to rival magic,
With every charming meaning challenging magic
in every chosen word, exquisitely wrought.
In every eloquent and finely crafted word
ربُّthe master of الكمالperfection الذيwho طَابَتwere pleasing شمائلهُhis traits
ربُّ الكمال الذي طَابَت شمائلهُ
وزَانَهاand he adorned them بصفَاتwith attributes of الفضلvirtue والحسَبِand noble standing
وزَانَها بصفَات الفضل والحسَبِ
The master of perfection, whose traits are pleasing,
Lord of perfection, whose virtues
and who adorned them with virtue and noble standing.
Matched his noble lineage and good breeding
لاmay ... not زالcease يُهديhe offers اليناto us بالجميلwith what is beautiful كَماjust as
لا زال يُهدي الينا بالجميل كَما
نُهديwe offer إليهِto him ثنآءًpraise غيرnot مُقتَضَبِcurtailed
نُهدي إليهِ ثنآءً غير مُقتَضَبِ
May he ever bring us beauty, just as
He continues to gift us beautiful works
we offer him praise that is not curtailed.
As we gift him with unrestrained praise
