O time of youth, peace be upon you.

O spring in which the days are radiant.

In you life grows sweet, O flower

of life, and minds and bodies grow.

The ease of life we enjoyed—ah, if only it had

lasted! Yet can we hope for time to endure?

How my soul aches for those brief moments of companionship,

Which have passed away as though they were dreams.

In abodes like the Garden of Eternity,

Where the clouds make the gardens smile.

Where time wore a cheerful countenance,

And the eyes of sorrow slept, heedless of us.

Where youth’s bough is tender and fresh,

Leaves and doves gather above it.

O homelands’ abodes, may the rain greet

your soil, and may your noble inhabitants live!

O dwelling place of joy, peace be upon you.

O gardens where it is sweet to dwell.

For my heart, forgetting you is forbidden,

And my eye sheds streaming tears for you.
