Peace from me upon the dwellings of my loved ones,
My greetings to the dwellings of my loved ones
Like musk, borne by the east wind when it blew.
Carried by the morning breeze as it blows

Peace from me upon the one who left the sanctuary,
My greetings to him who left the abode
And his image still remains in my eye.
Whose image still lingers before my eyes

I swear by that abode: my heart has never yearned
I swear by that land, my heart has not inclined
Except for an abode on whose hills lies my paradise.
Except to a corner within it, my paradise

Ah, how lovely those dwellings are, even if they be...
How wonderful that abode is, even if
Tell him I am alive, yet have remained like one dead.
It remains desolate since I left it

By God, O you who visited the sanctuary's outskirts,
For God's sake, O you who visited the dwellings of the abode
Convey to him a thousand thousand greetings.
Convey to him a thousand greetings
وسَلِand ask الحبيبَthe beloved متىwhen اللقآءُthe reunion فإننيfor indeed I
فيin الحىِّthe encampment ماnot برحتُI ceased to be كَميِّتِlike one dead
And ask the beloved when we shall meet, for I
And ask the beloved when will we meet again
Have remained like one dead in the encampment.
For I still pine in longing
