Do not be troubled; it is only that my exile has grown long.
Do not be troubled if exile drags on.
Some people fail to understand: exile is no cause for shame.
Some people were ignorant; exile is no disgrace.

أرتجي أن يزول هذا السحابُ
And bear patiently with time a while, for I
And bear with the times awhile, for I
hope that this cloud will pass away.
hope that this cloud will pass.

We are the soldiers of right; however badly we are routed
We are soldiers of right; however often we are driven back
before its enemies, right remains right.
from its enemies, right is still right.

And the vicissitudes of time are ever-changing:
And the vicissitudes of time are varied:
one faction’s triumph wounds other factions.
One party’s victory wounds other parties.

لو رأى الناس عادلاً لارتابوا
Tyranny has so corrupted people’s souls that
Oppression has corrupted people’s souls so deeply that
were they to see a just man, they would mistrust him.
if people saw a just man, they would be suspicious.

They have been starved, so some devour others;
They have been starved, so some eat others:
some of them are sheep, and some are wolves.
Some of them are sheep, and some are wolves.
