مَنwho مُبلِغٌone who conveys عَنّيon my behalf أَباAbu (father of) كامِلِKamil
أَنّيthat I إِذاwhen ماemphatic particle غابَhe is absent كَالهامِلِlike an untended stray
Who will tell Abu Kamil on my behalf
Who will convey to Abu Kamil
that when he is away, I am like an untended stray?
That when he is absent, I yearn like an ardent lover,
وَزادَنيand increased in me شَوقاًlonging إِلىfor قُربِهِnearness to him
ماwhat قَدalready مَضىhas passed مِنof دَهرِناour time الحائِلِchanging
And my longing to be near him has been heightened
And the time passed between us makes me long more for his nearness,
by what has passed of our changing days.
When I meet him, I remain intoxicated with joy for days.
إِنّيindeed I إِذاwhen عاطَيتُهُI offer him مُزَةًtart wine
ظَلتُI remained بيومِin a day of الفَرَحِjoy الجاذِلِjubilant
Indeed, when I offer him tart wine,
I spend a day of jubilant joy.
