فَأَقسِمُso I swear ماnot أَدنَيتُI brought near كَفّيmy hand لِريبَةٍtoward a dubious deed
وَلاnor حَمَلَتنيcarried me نَحوَtoward فاحِشَةٍan indecent act رِجليmy foot
So I swear: I have not brought my hand near a dubious deed,
I swear by all the deeds my hands have done,
Nor has my foot carried me toward an indecent act;
And that my feet walk not towards shameful acts.
وَلاnor قادَنيled me سَمعيmy hearing وَلاnor بَصَريmy sight لَهاto it
وَلاnor دَلَّنيdirected me رَاييmy judgment عَلَيهاto it وَلاnor عَقليmy reason
Nor has my hearing led me to it, nor my sight,
Neither my ears nor eyes have led me there,
Nor has my judgment directed me to it, nor my reason.
Nor has my reason or mind inclined that way.
وَأَعلَمُand I know أَنّيthat I لَمdid not تُصِبنيbefall me مُصيبَةٌa misfortune
مِنَfrom الدَهرِtime إِلّاexcept قَدalready أَصابَتbefell فَتىًa young man مِثليlike me
And I know that no misfortune has befallen me
And I know that no calamity has struck me,
At time's hands without having already befallen a young man like me.
Except the same that happened to others like me.
