Rise, and give me drink before the sparrows' calls.
Rise up and pour me a drink before the birds start chirping,
Indeed, I see dawn has already called out with glad tidings.
For I see the dawn has brought good tidings with its call.

تَرمي النَدامى بِتَخثيرٍ وَتَفتيرِ
Yellow wine from Beirut, well aged,
A golden wine from aged barrels in Beirut,
striking the drinking companions with torpor and languor.
Throwing the repentant into delirium and raving madness.

قَبلَ الحُميّا رَهيناً غَيرَ مَنزورِ
Give the two companions drink from a cup with bubbles,
It intoxicated the revelers with a cup that held a sweet delight,
before the wine's heat takes hold—a steady, unstinted draught.
Binding them tipsy before the heat of noon could sneak up and spoil the fun.

Pass it round to the right when we drink it,
Turn it gently rightwards as we drink it,
like a witness before a judge, standing to give false testimony.
Like a witness standing before a crooked judge.
