أَسَعدَةُO Saʿda هَلis there إِلَيكِto you لَناfor us سَبيلٌa way
وَهَلand is there حَتّىuntil القِيامَةِthe Resurrection مِنany تَلاقيmeeting
O Saʿda, is there a way for us to reach you?
Is there any way for us to be united, Sa'dah?
And will there be any meeting by the Day of Resurrection?
Or must we stay apart until the Day of Judgement comes?
بَلىyes وَلَعَلَّand perhaps دَهراًtime أَنٌthat يُؤاتيprove favorable

بِمَوتٍthrough a death مِنof حَليلِكِyour husband أَوor طَلاقِdivorce
Yes, and perhaps time will favor us
Yes, perhaps fate may someday bring us together again
with your husband's death or a divorce,
Through your husband's death or your divorce from him.
فَأُصبِحَso I may become شامِتاًgloating وَتَقَرَّand be gladdened عَينيmy eye
وَيُجمَعُand be reunited شَملُناour union بَعدَafter اِفتِراقِseparation
so I may gloat and my eye be gladdened,
Then I will rejoice as my eyes feast on the sight,
and our union be restored after separation.
And we will be reunited after our separation.
فَطَلَّقهاso divorce her فَلَستَfor you are not لَهاfor her بِكُفءٍa worthy match
وَلَوand even if أَعطَيتَyou gave هِنداًa hundred camels فيas الصَداقِthe bridal dower
So divorce her, for you are no worthy match for her,
But you divorced her, so you are not her equal any more,
even if you gave a hundred camels as her bridal dower.
Even if you offered all of India as her dowry.
