إِلىto أُسرَةٍa family لَيسواthey are not بِسودٍblack men زَعانِفِlowborn hangers-on
O lovesick Hakam, if you traced your lineage
O foolish ruler, had you been related
to a family who were not black, lowborn hangers-on,
To a family with no black fins
لِأَيقَنتَyou would surely know قَدalready أَدرَكتَyou had attained وِترَكَyour vengeance عَنوَةًby force
بِلاwithout حُكمٍa ruling قاضٍa judge بَلrather بِضَربِby striking السَوالِفِthe sides of necks
you would surely know you had exacted your vengeance by force,
You would have realized you overstepped
without a judge's ruling, but by striking the sides of necks.
With no wise judgment, but only idle talk
