Turn aside, my two friends, to the settlement
My friend, I yearn for the pastures
and the deserted dwelling-site of Sallāmah.
And the open meadows of Salamah's dwellings
ذَكَّرَنيreminded me سَلمىSalmā وَأَيّامَهاand her days
ذَكَّرَني سَلمى وَأَيّامَها

إِذ جاوَرَتنا بِلِوى عَسجَرِ
It reminded me of Salmā and her days,
Salma reminded me of her days
when she lived beside us at the sandy bend of ʿAsjar,
When she lived near us in Liwa of Asajir

وَمَحوَراً ناهيكَ مِن مَحوَرِ
at the dwelling-site in Wuddān, a desert camp for us,
In the meadows of Wudan, a home to us
and a place of return—what a fine place of return!
And a place of gathering - how wondrous a place!

In a settlement where we used to meet—
In that dwelling we used to meet
ah, how lovely that settlement was!
Oh, how splendid was that dwelling!

When we and the tribe were neighbors there,
When we and the neighbors were all close
in times gone by, in ages past.
In times gone by, in days of old
