When I recall the beauty of our companionship,

with life still fresh and our company united,

I draw the broken breaths of a lovesick, languishing man,

whose soul longing has torn to pieces.

So woe to the herald of parting—how he

called for it, through my ill luck, to bring me misery!

Rather, woe to my heart—how steadfast it was!

It parted from its loved ones, yet did not break.

Let Time do whatever it wishes; for I do not

care, after you are gone, what it has done.
