بأبيwith my father as ransom منthe one whom هويتهI loved him وافترقناand we parted
بأبي من هويته وافترقنا
وقضىand decreed اللَهGod بعدafter ذاكthat اجتماعاa reunion
وقضى اللَه بعد ذاك اجتماعا
My father be the ransom of the one I loved—and we parted;
May my father be ransom for the one I loved, from whom I parted;
then God ordained that afterward we meet again.
and God decreed a reunion after that.
افترقناwe parted حولاfor a year فلماthen when التقيناwe met
افترقنا حولا فلما التقينا
كانwas تسليمهhis greeting عليّto me وداعاa farewell
كان تسليمه عليّ وداعا
We were apart a year, but when at last we met,
