سقى اللَه أرض الغوطتين وأهلها

سقى اللَه أرض الغوطتين وأهلها

فلي بجنوب الغوطتين شجون

فلي بجنوب الغوطتين شجون

May God water the land of the two Ghoutas and its people.

Allah has watered the land of Ghouta and its people

For I have sorrows in the environs of the two Ghoutas.

So I have sorrows for southern Ghouta

وما ذقت طعم الماء إلا استشفّني

وما ذقت طعم الماء إلا استشفّني

إلى برد ماء النيربين حنين

إلى برد ماء النيربين حنين

And never did I taste water without being consumed

I have not tasted the flavor of water except to heal me

by yearning for the coolness of the two Nayrabs’ water.

To the coolness of Nirbene's water I yearn

وقد كان شكّي في الفراق يروعني

وقد كان شكّي في الفراق يروعني

فكيف أكون اليوم وهو يقين

فكيف أكون اليوم وهو يقين

And even my uncertainty about parting used to terrify me.

My doubt about parting used to frighten me

So how am I today, when it is certain?

So how can I be today when it is certain?

وواللَه ما فارقتكم قاليا لكم

وواللَه ما فارقتكم قاليا لكم

ولكن ما يقضي فسوف يكون

ولكن ما يقضي فسوف يكون

And by God, I did not part from you out of hatred for you.

By Allah, I did not leave you, O my family

But whatever He decrees will come to pass.

But what is destined shall come to pass
