لحاmay curse اللَهGod راياًa thought زيّنmade appealing البعدseparation عنكمfrom you
لحا اللَه راياً زيّن البعد عنكم
وهمّةand a resolve قلبof a heart رخّصتgave permission فيin التقلّبwandering
وهمّة قلب رخّصت في التقلّب
May God curse the thought that made separation from you seem fair,
God has granted me a beautiful view after being away from you all
And a heart's resolve that gave leave to wander.
And a heart that finds comfort in change
يطيبturns sweet خبيثthe bitter part of العيشlife بالقربthrough nearness منكمto you
يطيب خبيث العيش بالقرب منكم
ويخبثand turns bitter عنديto me بعدكمaway from you كلّevery طيبsweet thing
ويخبث عندي بعدكم كلّ طيب
Life's bitterness turns sweet in nearness to you,
Wicked living becomes pleasant in your company
And away from you, all sweetness turns bitter to me.
And everything pleasant becomes wicked after you
نأيتI went far away بشخصwith a body فيin البلادthe lands مشرّقheading east
نأيت بشخص في البلاد مشرّق
وقلبand a heart اليكمtoward you بالحنينwith longing مغرّبheading west
وقلب اليكم بالحنين مغرّب
I went far away, my body heading east through the lands,
I have come to this land with a shining persona
And my heart heading west toward you in longing.
Yet my heart longs for you and is saddened
