1. أنا في ميعة الصبا لا أر

    ى الأيام إلا ملذةً وغراما

    In the bloom of youth, I do not see

    the days as anything but pleasure and passion.

  2. كل ما في الوصال عندي حلالٌ

    لا أرى في الوصال شيئاً حراما

    All that comes with union is lawful in my eyes;

    I see nothing forbidden in union.

  3. أنكرت مذهبي ثريا فلا

    أسمع منها الكلام إلا ملاما

    Thurayya rejected my creed, so

    I hear nothing from her but reproach.

  4. هي تبغي احتكار قلبي وقلبي

    ثائرٌ مطلقٌ هوى وهياما

    She seeks sole possession of my heart, but my heart

    is rebellious, unrestrained in desire and passionate love.

  5. ان رأى في الغمام وجه مليحٍ

    مال عنها وطارَ ينحو الغماما

    If it sees a lovely face among the clouds,

    it turns away from her and flies toward the clouds.

  6. هو في الحب فوضويٌّ فلا يقب

    ل في الحب أن يطيع نظاما

    It is an anarchist in love, so it will not accept

    having to obey rules in love.

  7. أينما صادف المدام حساها

    أينما صادف الجمال ترامى

    Wherever it encounters wine, it sips it;

    wherever it encounters beauty, it flings itself toward it.

  8. خففي اللوم فالصبا ساعة تمضي

    ونشقي من بعدها أياما

    Ease your reproach, for youth is a passing hour,

    and afterward we suffer for days.
