طَرَقَcame by night الخَيَالُthe phantom فَمَرحَباًso welcome أَلفَاًa thousand times
طَرَقَ الخَيَالُ فَمَرحَباً أَلفَاً
بِالشَّاغِفَاتِto the heart-enrapturing women قُلُوبِنَاour hearts شَغفَاwith passion
بِالشَّاغِفَاتِ قُلُوبِنَا شَغفَا
The phantom came by night—a thousand welcomes
Imagination knocked, so a thousand welcomes
To the women who pierce our hearts with passion.
To the passions of our hearts that are impassioned

And indeed the physician says to me, though I have not
Indeed the doctor says to me, though
Told him a single word of our affair:
I have not told him anything of our affair

I reckon your illness is from one
Comes from one with armlets who dyes the palm.”
With rosy fingers that dyes the palm

Indeed, I am al-Waddah; if you join me,
I am Al-Waddah, if you meet me
I shall excel in love poetry and descriptions of you.
I will eulogize you well with description
شَطَّتshe went far away فَشَفَّso wore thin القَلبَthe heart ذِكرُكَهاyour remembrance of her
شَطَّت فَشَفَّ القَلبَ ذِكرُكَها

وَدَنَت فَمَا بَذَلَت لَنا عُرفَا
She went far away, so your remembrance of her wore the heart thin;
Your mention has healed and quenched my heart
And she drew near, yet bestowed no kindness on us.
And come close, but has not shown us any intimacy
