Hear me, my people! Loose a captive's fetter.

And show kindness to one clothed in anxiety and sorrow.

He remembered Salma while she was far away, and yearned.

And can remembrance help when home lies far away?

Have you not seen her, golden-skinned, tender in her youth,

Smooth where tears flow, like a fawn with a soft, nasal cry?

And I saw Salma between two figured mantles,

And tie-dyed cloaks of Yemen's gauzy cloth.

So I said to her as she climbed the roof, "Indeed, I

Fear for you on account of every handsome man with shoulder-length locks."
