Sol 6.1

  1. أَتَعرِفُ أَطلالاً بميسَرةِ اللِّوى

    إلى أَرعَبٍ قَد حَالَفَتكَ به الصِّبا

    Do you recognize ruins to the left of al-Liwa,

    stretching to Arʿab, where youthful passion once made a pact with you?

  2. فَأَهلاً وَسَهلاً بالَّتي حَلَّ حبُّها

    فؤادي وحلَّت دارَ شَحطٍ من النَّوى

    So a warm welcome to her whose love has settled

    in my heart, while she has settled in a far-off home, parted from me.

  3. أُبَادِرُ دُرونك الأميرِ وقُربَه

    لأُذكرَ في أَهلِ الكَرَامَةِ والنُّهى

    I hasten [unclear word] toward the prince, seeking closeness to him,

    that I may be mentioned among people of honor and sound judgment.

  4. وأَتَّبع القُصَّاصَ كلَّ عشيَّةٍ

    رجاءَ ثوابِ اللَّهِ في عَدَدِ الخُطَا

    And I follow the storytellers every evening,

    hoping for God's reward for every step.

  5. وَأمسَت بقصرٍ يَضرِبُ الماءُ سورَهُ

    وأصبَحت في صَنعَاءَ أَلتَمِسُ النَّدى

    And evening found her in a palace, water beating against its wall,

    while morning found me in Sana'a, seeking bounty.

  6. فَمَن مُبلِغٌ عنّي سماعةَ ناهِياً

    فَإِن شئتَ فاقطَعنا كَما يُقطَع السَّلى

    Who, then, will convey a warning from me to Samaʿa?

    If you wish, then cut us off as the afterbirth is cut away.

  7. وَإِن شِئتَ وَصلَ الرَّحمِ في غَيرِ حيلةٍ

    فَعَلنَا وقُلنا للَّذِي تَشتَهي بَلى

    And if you wish to maintain the ties of kinship without guile,

    we will do so, and say 'Yes' to whatever you desire.

  8. وَإِن شئتَ صُرماً للتفرُّقِ والنَّوى

    فَبُعداً أدَامَ اللَّهُ تفرقةَ النَّوى

    And if you desire a rupture, bringing separation and distance,

    then away with you! May God prolong the rift of separation.
