أَيَاO رَوضَةَgarden الوَضَّاحِof al-Waddah ياO خَيرَfinest رَوضَةٍgarden
لأَِهلِكِbelonging to your people لَوif only جَادُواthey were generous عَلَيناto us بمَنزِلِwith lodging
O garden of al-Waddah, O finest garden
Belonging to your people—if only they would grant us lodging!
رَهِينُكِyour captive وَضَّاحٌWaddah ذَهَبتِyou went away بِعَقلِهِwith his reason
فَإِنso if شِئتِyou wish فَأَحييهِthen give him life وَإِنand if شِئتِyou wish فَاقتُلِيthen kill
Waddah is your captive; you have taken away his reason.
So if you wish, give him life; and if you wish, kill him.

And at times she kindles her fire with aloeswood,
And sometimes she kindles it with musk and sandalwood.
