متى أرَى الطّوبانَ قد مَهَّدت

حيطانَه السّودَ المَحارِيثُ

حيطانَه السّودَ المَحارِيثُ

When shall I see al-Tuban, with

Homes, when will I see you

its black walls leveled by the plows?

With black plows leveling your walls

ما فيهِ إلاّ رِيحُ عادٍ وأج

ما فيهِ إلاّ رِيحُ عادٍ وأج

لافٌ طَغامٌ وبراغيثُ

لافٌ طَغامٌ وبراغيثُ

There is nothing in it but the wind of ʿAd and

Naught inside but winds of Aad

boorish rabble and fleas.

And remnants, ruins, and ants
