يقولون لي أفنيتَ كلَّ ذخيرةٍ

يقولون لي أفنيتَ كلَّ ذخيرةٍ

وأنفقْتَ مالاً لا تجودُ بهِ النَّفسُ

وأنفقْتَ مالاً لا تجودُ بهِ النَّفسُ

They say to me, “You have exhausted every reserve,

They say I have spent every treasure

and spent wealth the soul is loath to part with.”

And lavished wealth no soul would freely give.

فقلتُ نعمْ فرَّقْتُ ما جَمَعَتْ يَدي

فقلتُ نعمْ فرَّقْتُ ما جَمَعَتْ يَدي

وأرجو غداً يأتي بما أذهبَ الأمسُ

وأرجو غداً يأتي بما أذهبَ الأمسُ

So I said, “Yes, I scattered what my hand had gathered,

I said: Yes, I have scattered all my hands did gather,

and I hope tomorrow brings what yesterday took away.”

And hope tomorrow brings what yesterday did thieve.
