The daylight of gray hair has shown me my course, though often
The day of old age took me by purpose though
the night of youth carried me beyond my path.
The night of youth had long misled my way,
وقدand indeed كانwas عذريmy excuse أنthat أضلنيled me astray الدجىthe darkness
وقد كان عذري أن أضلني الدجى
فهلso, is there? ليfor me عذرan excuse والنهارwhile daylight دليليmy guide
فهل لي عذر والنهار دليلي
And my excuse was that the darkness led me astray;
My excuse was the darkness leading me astray,
so have I an excuse when daylight is my guide?
But have I now an excuse when daylight shows the road?
