Humility in the noble increases his merit
merit above his peers and equals.
Above his peers and counterparts
يكسوهclothes him منfrom حسنbeauty الثناءpraise ملابساgarments
يكسوه من حسن الثناء ملابسا
تنبوrecoil عنfrom المترفعthe haughty man المختالthe conceited
تنبو عن المترفع المختال
It clothes him in garments of fine praise
It adorns him with beautiful praise
that recoil from the haughty, conceited man.
That exposes the arrogant pretender
إنindeed السيولtorrents إلىtoward القرارlow-lying ground سريعةswift
إن السيول إلى القرار سريعة
والسيلand the torrent حربan enemy للمكانto the place العاليhigh
والسيل حرب للمكان العالي
Indeed, torrents rush swiftly to low ground,
Indeed, waters flow swiftly to the low ground
and the torrent is an enemy to high ground.
And a flood makes war on the lofty place
