مُروّعٌterrified بالقِلَىby aversion والصَّدِّand rejection ليسthere is not لهfor him
مُروّعٌ بالقِلَى والصَّدِّ ليس له
صبرٌpatience علىthrough الهجرِestrangement والإعراضِand disregard يُسْعِدُهُaids him
صبرٌ على الهجرِ والإعراضِ يُسْعِدُهُ
Terrified by aversion and rejection, he has no
Distressed by estrangement and indifference, he has
patience to sustain him through estrangement and disregard.
No patience for abandonment and aloofness that bring him joy
إذَاwhen استَغَرّtook unawares الكَرىslumber أجفانَthe eyelids of مُقلَتِهhis eye
إذَا استَغَرّ الكَرى أجفانَ مُقلَتِه
وَافَىarrived الخيالُthe phantom بطولِwith the length of الهجرِestrangement يُوعِدُهُthreatens him
وَافَى الخيالُ بطولِ الهجرِ يُوعِدُهُ
When slumber takes his eyelids unawares,
When the light of day tires his weeping eyes
the phantom arrives, threatening him with prolonged estrangement.
And the imagination approximates the length of estrangement that promises him
تُذكيkindles مدامُعُهhis tears جَمراًembers تسعَّرblazed فيwithin
تُذكي مدامُعُه جَمراً تسعَّر في
حشاهُhis breast والجمرُand the embers فيضُa flood of الماءِwater يُخْمِدُهُquenches them
حشاهُ والجمرُ فيضُ الماءِ يُخْمِدُهُ
His tears kindle embers that blaze within
His tears ignite embers that flare within him
his breast, though a flood of water quenches embers.
While the embers overflow the water that extinguishes them
