قل للذي خضب المشيب جهالة
دعleave عنكaway from you ذاthis فلكلfor every صبغdye ماحيan eraser
دع عنك ذا فلكل صبغ ماحي
Tell the one who foolishly dyed his graying hair:
Tell him who dyes his gray hair in ignorance:
Give that up—for every dye has an eraser.
Leave this off, for every dye has something that erases it.
أوand (introducing a question) ماترىyou do not see صبغthe dye اللياليof the nights كلماwhenever
أو ماترى صبغ الليالي كلما
جددتهthey renew it يمحوهerases it ضوءlight صباحof morning
جددته يمحوه ضوء صباح
Do you not see the nights’ dye? Whenever
And do you not see how the nights’ dye, whenever
they renew it, morning light wipes it away.
they renew it, is erased by morning light?
