فيال ويح قلبي من خلي وجاهل

Ṣubḥī rebukes me in the dwelling for weeping.

In the house, Sobhi reproaches me for crying

Oh, woe to my heart from the carefree and the ignorant!

Oh woe is me, my ignorant and cruel lover

وقالوا أتبكي للمنازل قلت لا

وقالوا أتبكي للمنازل قلت لا

ولكنما أبكي لأهل المنازل

ولكنما أبكي لأهل المنازل

And they said, “Do you weep for the dwellings?” I said, “No,”

They asked, "Do you cry for the houses?" I said no

“Rather, I weep for the people of the dwellings.”
