Patience with days that have gone
Patience for the days of hardship
to extremes in opposing and biting me.
That attacked in opposing me
فالدهرfor time كالميزانlike a balance ماnot
فالدهر كالميزان ما
ينفكceases منfrom رفعraising ومنand from خفضlowering
ينفك من رفع ومن خفض
For time is like a balance: it never
For time is like a scale, it does not cease
ceases to raise and to lower.
From raising up or lowering down
هذاthis one معamong الأفلاكthe heavenly spheres مرelevated (first fragment)
هذا مع الأفلاك مر
تفعelevated (final fragment) وذاand that one بحضيضin the depths of أرضearth
تفع وذا بحضيض أرض
This one, among the heavenly spheres, is raised
This one rises with the stars' cycle
high, and that one is in the depths of the earth.
And that to the ground's rock bottom
وإلىand toward الفناءextinction جميعall منthose whom
وإلى الفناء جميع من
خفضتهthey lowered him أوor رفعتهthey raised him يفضيmakes his way
خفضته أو رفعته يفضي
And toward extinction all those whom
And to oblivion will go all whom
the days have lowered or raised make their way.
It lowered or raised up in the end
