    One ignorant of my plight prescribed patience to me,

    His mind free of my worries and thoughts,

    لاَ ولاَ دهرُهُ ظَلومٌ كدَهرِي

    At ease—his heart is not like mine;

    No, nor is his fate as oppressive as mine.

    He has no acquaintance with sorrows, nor has he been forced

    To patience by compulsion and coercion.

    And I, ever amid the calamities of time,

    Drink bitter aloes therein, thanks to my steadfast patience.

    It has become my habit; even if the wide expanse of the

    Earth grew narrow for me, my breast would not be too narrow for patience.
