يا نَاسياً عِشرةَ التّصافي

يا نَاسياً عِشرةَ التّصافي

وخَافِراً حُرمةَ الذّمَامِ

وخَافِراً حُرمةَ الذّمَامِ

O you who forget the companionship of mutual affection,

O oblivious to the intimacy of accord

And violate the sanctity of the pledge,

And violator of the sanctity of bonds

إلامَ أَغتَرُّ بالأَمَانِي

إلامَ أَغتَرُّ بالأَمَانِي

فِيكَ كمُستَمْطِرِ الجَهَامِ

فِيكَ كمُستَمْطِرِ الجَهَامِ

How long shall I be beguiled by hopes

Why do I delude myself with wishes

In you, like one seeking rain from a rainless cloud?

In you, like one awaiting rain in barren lands

كأَنّنِي في الذي أُرَجّي

كأَنّنِي في الذي أُرَجّي

بُلوغَهُ مِنكَ في المنَامِ

بُلوغَهُ مِنكَ في المنَامِ

It is as though, in what I hope

As though what I hope for from you

To attain from you, I were dreaming.

I will attain in a dream

وطالبُ الوصلِ من مَلُولٍ

وطالبُ الوصلِ من مَلُولٍ

كَطالِب الماءِ في الضِّرامِ

كَطالِب الماءِ في الضِّرامِ

And one who seeks union from someone quick to tire

And the seeker of union with the reticent

Is like one seeking water in a blazing fire.

Is like the seeker of water in mirages
