O wrongdoer, forever frightening
O you who are eternally unjust
me with avoidance and reproach!
You turn away with disdain and blame
كَمhow long ذاthis الصُّدودُshunning أماdo you not تخاyou fear (word continues)
كَم ذا الصُّدودُ أما تخا
فُfinal syllable of 'you fear' اللهGod فيin ظُلمwronging المُحِبِّthe lover
فُ الله في ظُلم المُحِبِّ
How long this shunning? Do you not fear
How long will you bar these doors
God when you wrong the lover?
Does God not see the darkness of lovers?
أترىdo you think هواكَlove for you وحفظَand keeping عهدa pledge
أترى هواكَ وحفظَ عهد
كَyour (attached to 'pledge') حيثُwhile لمdid not تحفظهُyou keep it ذنبيmy fault
كَ حيثُ لم تحفظهُ ذنبي
Do you deem loving you and keeping your pledge,
Do you think your love and keeping of vows
though you have not kept it, my fault?
Is where mine were not kept, due to my sin?
حَسبيenough for me الّذيwhat ألقاهُI endure it مِنfrom
حَسبي الّذي ألقاهُ مِن
لومِblame اللّوائمthe reproaching women فِيكَon your account حسبيenough for me
لومِ اللّوائم فِيكَ حسبي
What I endure is enough for me:
Enough for me is the blame
the reproaching women's blame on your account—enough for me!
