أيّهاO الظَّالمُoppressor مهلاًdesist
أيّها الظَّالمُ مهلاً
أنتَyou بالحاكمِabout the Judge غِرُّignorant
أنتَ بالحاكمِ غِرُّ
O oppressor, desist!
O oppressor, stop!
You are ignorant of the Judge.
You are resentful of the ruler
كلُّall ماthat which استعذَبْتَyou found sweet منْof جَوْoppression (beginning of جورك)
كلُّ ما استعذَبْتَ منْ جَوْ
ركَyour oppression (end of جورك) تعذيبٌtorment وجَمْرُand glowing coals
ركَ تعذيبٌ وجَمْرُ
All that you have found sweet in your
All the sweetness you have tasted
oppression is torment and glowing coals.
Is torture and embers
ليسnot يلقىintercepts دعوةَthe prayer المظthe oppressed (beginning of المظلوم)
ليس يلقى دعوةَ المظ
لومِthe oppressed (end of المظلوم) دونَshort of reaching اللهِGod سِتْرُa veil
لومِ دونَ اللهِ سِتْرُ
No veil bars the prayer of the
No plea of the oppressed reaches
oppressed from reaching God.
Anyone but Allah as cover
فَخَفِso fear اللهGod فماfor not يَخْis hidden (beginning of يخفى)
فَخَفِ الله فما يَخْ
فىis hidden (end of يخفى) عَلَيْهِfrom Him مِنهُof him سرُّa secret
فى عَلَيْهِ مِنهُ سرُّ
So fear God, for no secret of his
So fear Allah, nothing of Him
is hidden from Him.
Remains hidden from Him as secret
يجمعُbrings together الظّالمَthe oppressor والمَظْand the oppressed (beginning of والمظلوم)
يجمعُ الظّالمَ والمَظْ
لومَthe oppressed (end of والمظلوم) بعدafter الموتِdeath حَشْرُa gathering for judgment
لومَ بعد الموتِ حَشْرُ

طانٌ ولا يُسْمَعُ عُذْرُ
Where no protection comes from

أَوَ ما يَنهاكَ عن ظُل
مِكyour oppression (end of ظلمك) موتٌdeath ثمَّthen قَبْرُa grave
مِك موتٌ ثمَّ قَبْرُ
