ياO مَلولاًfickle one قلّماseldom يَرْbeginning of يَرْعَى: he honors
يا مَلولاً قلّما يَرْ
عَىcompletion of يَرْعَى: he honors لِمنto one who يَهواهُloves him عَهدَاa pledge
عَى لِمن يَهواهُ عَهدَا
O fickle one, who seldom
O unfaithful one, seldom does he
honors a pledge to one who loves him.
Keep true to the one who loves him
ياO ظَلوماَunjust one كلّمَاwhenever استعbeginning of استعطفته: I sought his compassion
يا ظَلوماَ كلّمَا استع
طَفْتُهcompletion of استعطفته: I sought his compassion تَاهَhe grew haughty وصَدّاand he turned away
طَفْتُه تَاهَ وصَدّا
O unjust one, whenever I seek
O unjust one, whenever I implore him
his compassion, he grows haughty and turns away.
He goes astray and becomes aloof
لِمْwhy جَعلتَyou made الهجرَestrangement ياO موbeginning of مولاي: my lord
لِمْ جَعلتَ الهجرَ يا مو
لايَcompletion of مولاي: my lord قبلbefore البُعدseparation بُعدَاa distance
لايَ قبل البُعد بُعدَا
Why have you made estrangement, O my
Why, O my beloved, did you make estrangement
lord, a distance before separation?
Before distance became far
مَاnot أرىI see ليfor me منكfrom you فيin حَاbeginning of حال: state
مَا أرى لي منك في حَا
لِcompletion of حال: state الرّضاcontentment والسُّخطِand displeasure بُدّاa way to do without
لِ الرّضا والسُّخطِ بُدّا
I see no way to do without you, whether in a state
I see not from you in my state of
of contentment or displeasure.
