لا ترغَبَنْ فيمَن إذا شاهَدْتَهُ

لا ترغَبَنْ فيمَن إذا شاهَدْتَهُ

وخبَرْتَه لم تُلفِهِ بالشَّاهِدِ

وخبَرْتَه لم تُلفِهِ بالشَّاهِدِ

Never seek the company of one whom, when you see him

Do not desire one whom when you see

and test him, you do not find truly present.

And come to know, you do not find agreeable

ومَتى أردتَ تكثُّراً بدنُوِّهِ

ومَتى أردتَ تكثُّراً بدنُوِّهِ

فاعلَم بأنَّكَ لم تَزِدْ عن واحدِ

فاعلَم بأنَّكَ لم تَزِدْ عن واحدِ

And whenever you seek greater numbers through his company,

And when you wish for his company

then know that you still number no more than one.

Know that you have not gone beyond one
