اُنظُر بِعيشِكَ هل تَرى
أحداًanyone يدومُremains constant علىin المودَّةْaffection
أحداً يدومُ على المودَّةْ
Look, by your life—do you see
Look at your life, do you see
anyone who remains constant in affection?
Anyone staying true in affection?
لِتَرىso that you may see أخِلاَّءَclose friends الرَّخاprosperity (word continues)
لِتَرى أخِلاَّءَ الرَّخا
ءِending of 'prosperity' عِدىًenemies إذاwhen نابَتكَbefalls you شِدَّةْhardship
ءِ عِدىً إذا نابَتكَ شِدَّةْ
You will see the friends of prosperity
So you may see the friends of luxury
as enemies when hardship befalls you.
As enemies when hardship visits you.
ولِكُلِّand for all ماthat which تَأْبىyou shun وتَهْand you desire (word continues)
ولِكُلِّ ما تَأْبى وتَهْ
وىending of 'you desire' إنif صَبَرْتَyou are patient مَدىًa span ومُدَّةْand a duration
وى إن صَبَرْتَ مَدىً ومُدَّةْ
And all that you shun and desire,
And for all you refuse and desire
if you are patient, has its span and its term.
If you are patient a while and a period.
