بكُسُوفِ بَدرِي واشتِهارِ مَحاقهِ
Look at my reproacher’s gloating and his delight
Behold the glee of my critic and his joy
At my full moon’s eclipse and its widely known darkening.
At the eclipse of my moon and the gloom of my horizon
غَطّىveiled ظَلامُthe darkness of الشّعْرِthe hair منfrom وَجناتِهhis cheeks
غَطّى ظَلامُ الشّعْرِ من وَجناتِه

صُبحاً تضيءُ الأرضُ من إشراقهِ
The darkness of hair has veiled, upon his cheeks,
The darkness of hair has covered his cheeks
A dawn whose radiance makes the earth shine.
While at dawn the earth is illuminated by my radiance
وهوand he الجهُولُthe ignoramus يقولُsays هذاthis عارضٌa beard along the cheek
وهو الجهُولُ يقولُ هذا عارضٌ
هُوit عارضٌan affliction لكنbut علىupon عُشّاقِهِhis lovers
هُو عارضٌ لكن على عُشّاقِهِ
And he, the ignoramus, says, “This is a cheek-beard.”
And he, the ignorant one, says "This is transient"
An affliction it is—but upon his lovers.
Transient perhaps, but not for my lovers
