أهكَذا أنَا بَاقِي العمرِ مُغترِبٌ
نَاءٍfar away عنfrom الأهلِfamily والأوطانِand homelands والسّكَنِand home
نَاءٍ عن الأهلِ والأوطانِ والسّكَنِ
Is this how I shall spend the rest of my life, an exile,
Thus for all my life an exile I remain
Far from family, homelands, and home?
Far from my family, homeland, and abode
لاnot تَستقرُّsettle جِيَادِيmy steeds فيin مُعَرَّسِهاtheir nightly resting place
لا تَستقرُّ جِيَادِي في مُعَرَّسِها
حتّىthan (after 'no sooner') أُرَوِّعَهاI startle them بالشّدّwith saddling والظّعَنِand departure
حتّى أُرَوِّعَها بالشّدّ والظّعَنِ
No sooner do my steeds settle at their nightly resting place
My steeds will not rest in their stables
Than I startle them with saddling and departure.
Until I spur them on with whip and goad
