فيin ذلِكَthat الحيِّencampment المُعرِّضِappearing in view ليto me هَويًa beloved
ودَّعْتُهI bade him farewell حذراًout of caution بطْرفٍwith a gaze معْرِضِaverted
In that encampment appearing before me is one I love.
In that lively neighborhood I fell in love
I bade him farewell cautiously, with an averted gaze.
I bid him farewell cautiously with an averted glance
أخشَىI fear عليهfor him الكاشِحينthe spiteful فكُلُّهمfor all of them
غَضبانُangry يُسخِطُهُenrages him هَوانَاour love لاnot رَضِيpleased
I fear the spiteful for his sake, for each of them
I fear for him the slanderers, for they are all
Is angry, enraged by our love, not pleased.
Angry, provoking him with passion, not appeased
فتلفّتَتْso it turned about عينِيmy eye المريضةُailing بالبُكاfrom weeping
والبينِand separation تأملُhopes for نظرةًa glance منfrom مُمْرِضيthe one who makes me ill
So my eye turned about, sick from weeping
So my sick eye wandered, weeping
And separation, hoping for a glance from him who makes me ill.
And between us a glance of longing from my healer
