عمادImad (pillar) الدينal-Din (of the faith) أنتyou لكلfor every داعsupplicant
عماد الدين أنت لكل داع
دعاكcalled upon you لعونهto aid him خيرthe best العمادsupport
دعاك لعونه خير العماد
Imad al-Din, you are, for every supplicant
O Imād al-Dīn, you are there for all who call upon you,
Who calls upon you for aid, the finest support.
Whoever calls on you for aid, you are the best pillar of support,
تقومyou rise لنصرهto help him كرماout of generosity إذاwhen ماemphatic particle
تقوم لنصره كرما إذا ما
تقاعدhung back ذوone possessing القرابةkinship والودادand affection
تقاعد ذو القرابة والوداد
You rise generously to help him whenever
You rise to give him victory out of generosity whenever
Those bound by kinship and affection hang back.
His kin and loved ones hold back.
قضىdecreed لكfor you بالعلىeminence كرمnobility السجاياinnate qualities
قضى لك بالعلى كرم السجايا
وماand what أوتيتyou were given منof كرمnobility الولادbirth
وما أوتيت من كرم الولاد
Nobility of character has decreed eminence for you,
Your sublime character has destined you for greatness
As has the nobility of birth with which you were endowed.
And for the generosity you inherited from your forefathers.
أبئكI tell you وحشتيmy loneliness لكfor you واشتياقيand my longing
أبئك وحشتي لك واشتياقي
إليكfor you وماand what لقيتI suffered منfrom البعادseparation
إليك وما لقيت من البعاد
I tell you of my loneliness without you and my longing
My longing for you does not leave me in my solitude,
For you, and what I have suffered from separation.
My yearning and separation from you is difficult to bear.
وإنيand indeed I فيin دمشقDamascus ومنand those whom حوتهit encompassed him
وإني في دمشق ومن حوته
لبعدكbecause of your distance ذوone experiencing اغترابestrangement وانفرادand solitude
لبعدك ذو اغتراب وانفراد
And I, in Damascus and among those it holds,
For in Damascus, where you now reside,
Am estranged and alone because you are far away.
I remain distraught and isolated without you near.
ومثلكand one like you إنif تطلبهsought him خبيرsomeone well versed
ومثلك إن تطلبه خبير
بهذاin this الخلقhumankind ليسis not بمستفادobtainable
بهذا الخلق ليس بمستفاد
And one like you, even if sought by someone versed
One like yourself, if sought, would not be found
In humankind, is not to be found.
Among people today, of that there is no doubt.
أنارshone بكthrough you الزمانthe age فلاso may not علتهcover it
أنار بك الزمان فلا علته
لفقدfor the loss of علاكyour eminence أثوابrobes الحدادmourning
لفقد علاك أثواب الحداد
The age has shone through you; may it never be clad
The times were brightened by your presence, and now
In robes of mourning at the loss of your eminence.
Without you here, grief's dark clothes abound.
