هَلis there لنَاfor us بعدafter افتراقٍseparation مُلْتَقَىa reunion
If only someone would ask the neighbors of al-Naqā:
I wish someone would ask the neighbors of separation
Will we meet again after parting?
Will we reunite after this parting?

بَعدَafter ماthat (clause marker) كانit had been جَميعاًunited فرقَاscattered groups
Time cast its evil eye upon us, so our company became,
Time has tormented us, so our unity is lost
after being united, scattered groups.
After it had been complete, scattered it was

And such are the days: one of their habits is
Such are the ways of days
to turn life's clear waters foul and turbid.
It turned the comfort of living into misery

Separation changed everything in me,
It changed everything in me but ardor and torment
after you left, except heartache and burning anguish.
After you all left

My steadfast patience betrayed me over you; yet faith was kept
My patience was treacherous, but my tears were loyal
with you by my tears, which swore never to cease.
Weeping endlessly for you

If only whoever envies the children of love
I wish those who envy the children of passion
could taste the misery they endure in it.
Would taste the misery they endure
