على الماءِ صَدْعٌ في الزُّجاجةِ بادي
I see a few hairs standing apart, as though they were
I see strands that stick out as though
a crack in the glass, visible against the water.
They were a crack in glassware on the water, visible.
وعَهديand my recollection بهاof them فيماin what مَضَىhas passed وكأنَّهاand as though they were
وعَهدي بها فيما مَضَى وكأنَّها
علىon الفِضَّةِthe silver البيضاءِwhite نقشُa design سَوَادِblackness
على الفِضَّةِ البيضاءِ نقشُ سَوَادِ
And I recall them in days gone by, when they were like
