أصبحتI have become فيin زَمنٍan age يَشيبُturns gray لجَوْرِهِbecause of its injustice
أصبحت في زَمنٍ يَشيبُ لجَوْرِهِ
فودُtemple hair الجنينِthe unborn child ويَهْرَمُand grows old المولودُthe newborn
فودُ الجنينِ ويَهْرَمُ المولودُ
I now live in an age whose injustice brings gray hair
I live in an age when the unborn's hair turns gray,
to the unborn child's temple, and the newborn grows old.
and the newborn grows old and decays.
وإذاand when شكوْناwe complained اليومَtoday ثمthen أتَىcame غَدٌtomorrow
وإذا شكوْنا اليومَ ثم أتَى غَدٌ
قُلْناwe said ألاah! ياoh! ليتَif only أمسِyesterday يعودُreturns
قُلْنا ألا يا ليتَ أمسِ يعودُ
And when we complain of today, and then tomorrow comes,
If we complain about our plight today, tomorrow will be worse than yesterday ever was.
we say, "Ah, if only yesterday would return!"
If only yesterday would return!
