كتمتُI concealed بَثّيmy anguish غيرَbut أنthat لمdid not أُطِقI could manage
كتمانَconcealing فيضِthe overflow of المَدمَعِthe tear duct الهَاملِstreaming
I hid my anguish, yet I could not
I concealed my sorrow, yet could not endure
Hide the flood of streaming tears,
To hide the outpouring of overflowing tears -
السّافِحِpouring forth السّاكِبِspilling الماطِرِraining down
ولَيسand it is not يُدْرَىknown لِقَذىًbecause of a mote جَائلٍdrifting
Pouring, spilling, raining down.
Raining, pouring down ceaselessly -
And none can tell whether a drifting mote
And none can tell if a speck in the eye
فيin العينِthe eye فاضَتit overflowed أمor هَوىًlove دَاخِلِinward
In the eye made it overflow, or love within,
Flowed over, or if deep within it tears
Betraying, overpowering, plain to see.
Gushed forth abundantly, openly.
كالوُرقِlike the gray doves لاnot يُدرَىis known علىover هَالِكٍone who has died
نَاحتْthey lamented أمor ارتَاحَتthey yearned إلىfor رَاحلِone who has departed
Like gray doves—none can tell whether, over one dead,
Like leaves, none knows if upon a departing
They lamented, or yearned for one departed,
Soul they lamented, or rejoiced at its release -
Far away, absent, one who forsakes.
Of one who migrated, absent and gone.
