أمسيتُI have become مثلَlike الشّمْعِthe candle يُشرِقُshines نورُهُits light
أمسيتُ مثلَ الشّمْعِ يُشرِقُ نورُهُ
والنّارُand the fire فيin أحشائِهِits innards تَتَلَهّبُblazes
والنّارُ في أحشائِهِ تَتَلَهّبُ
I have become like a candle whose light shines,
I have become like a candle whose light shines
While fire blazes in its innards.
While within it a fire burns
حَيرانَbewildered وجْهِيmy face للتّجمّلِto keep up appearances ضَاحِكٌsmiling
حَيرانَ وجْهِي للتّجمّلِ ضَاحِكٌ
طَلْقٌcheerful وقَلبيand my heart للهمومِbecause of worries مُقَطِّبُfrowning
طَلْقٌ وقَلبي للهمومِ مُقَطِّبُ
I am bewildered; my face smiles to keep up appearances,
My face smiles with made up delight
Cheerful, while my heart frowns with worry.
Calm yet my heart frowns with worries
