كَمhow often تُرْزميyou rumble softly وكمand how often تَحِنّيyou moan longingly يَانَاقْO she-camel

How often you rumble and how often you moan, O she-camel!
How much you sigh and yearn, O graceful one
Enough! You have stirred heartache and longing.
You have already provoked passion and longing
هِيit النّوَىseparation فماso what غَناءُuse الإشفاقْanxious concern
تَقَسّمَتْنَاit has divided us بالشّتاتْthrough dispersal والآفَاقْand the horizons
It is separation—what use is anxious concern?
It is fate, so cease your compassion
It has divided us, scattering us across the horizons,
We were divided by distance and horizons
كأنّهاas though it were خَلْقٌhumankind ونَحنand we أرْزاقْsustenance
حتّىuntil إذاwhen أدْمَىmade bleed البكاءُthe weeping الآماقْthe inner corners of the eyes
As though it were humankind and we were sustenance.
As if we are creation and sustenance
Until, when weeping had bloodied the inner corners of the eyes,
Until weeping darkened the depths
أصْقَبَتِdrew near الدّارُthe dwelling وقَلبِيَand my heart مُشتاقْyearning
ماhow! أتعَبَweary الحاملَthe bearer قلباًa heart تَوَّاقْdeeply yearning
The dwelling drew near, while my heart still yearned.
The home grew desolate and my heart yearns
How weary is the bearer of a yearning heart,
No burden tires a heart that longs

Like lightning, kindled into flame and throbbing.
Like lightning flickering through the darkness
