He grew weary and showed the scowl of boredom.
He turned away, showing signs of boredom,
And my affection was lost amid suspicion and accusations.
My affection in him was lost to suspicion and doubt.

حسنُ ورعْيُ العهودِ والذّمَمِ
And he broke faith with me; seldom do
He broke his vow, rarely keeping true,
beauty and the honoring of pledges and obligations unite.
To virtue, or honoring trusts and promises.

And he turned away from me, so I began to shun
He shut me out, so I began to shun
sleep, for fear of rejection in dreams.
Sleep, fearing rejection even in my dreams.

And I do not know what wrong I committed, except
I know not what I did, other than
that, in my love for him, I am blind to sound judgment.
In passion for him, lose sight of reason.
