يَريبُنيarouses my suspicion ماwhat أرىI see منكُمfrom you ويَعطِفُنيand draws me
يَريبُني ما أرى منكُم ويَعطِفُني
إلىtoward هواكُمlove for you وفاءٌloyalty لستُI do not أسأَمُهُtire of it
إلى هواكُم وفاءٌ لستُ أسأَمُهُ
What I see from you troubles me, yet I am drawn
to loving you by a loyalty of which I never tire.
كأَنّنِيas though I were أمُّthe mother of بَوٍّa camel calf’s stuffed hide تَستريبُshe is suspicious بماof what
كأَنّنِي أمُّ بَوٍّ تَستريبُ بما
تَراهُshe sees it منْهُof it ولاand not تَنفكُّshe ceases تَرأَمُهُshe cherishes it
تَراهُ منْهُ ولا تَنفكُّ تَرأَمُهُ
As though I were a she-camel mothering a stuffed calf, doubting what
she sees of it, yet never ceasing to cherish it.
