لا تحسدن على البقاء معمرا

لا تحسدن على البقاء معمرا

فالموت أيسر ما يؤول إليه

فالموت أيسر ما يؤول إليه

Do not envy a long-lived man his continued life;

Do not envy me for living long,

For death is the easiest thing that awaits him.

For death is the easiest end.

وإذا دعوت بطول عمر لامرئ

وإذا دعوت بطول عمر لامرئ

فاعلم بأنك قد دعوت عليه

فاعلم بأنك قد دعوت عليه

And if you pray for a man to have a long life,

And if you wish a long life for someone,

Then know that you have prayed against him.

Know that you have wished ill upon them.
